Lake Muskoka : Infrared

As mentioned in the earlier post, the summer trip to Canada included a few days at the Ashley family cottage on Lake Muskoka. I'd packed my infra-red D60 body with the Muskoka scenery in mind; big blue skies and forested islands sounded like ideal infra-red landscape scenery. And they were.
However, the mid-afternoon light that was working so well for deep blue skies and bright foliage was also forcing high shutter speeds that were perfectly freezing the surface of the lake. It was time to get the ND110 out.
With temperatures that week in the high thirties it didn't take much convincing to get Lauren to help out with some modelling and stand in the lake. Having a figure in the scene gives a much better sense of scale to the images, especially those big swaying trees along the shoreline. The wind was high enough to create a decent swell on the lake too, so extra points to Lauren for managing to stay still through most of the long exposures.

With that said though, one of my favourite images of the day is this shot:
Which just goes to show that a little bit of "unexpected" isn't always a bad thing ;)
